Teamwork

Teamwork is essential for effective rehabilitation. At the Burbank Rehabilitation Center, you are the most important member of a multidisciplinary team dedicated to helping you achieve your personal best. Together with your family, you have the ultimate responsibility for setting goals and making decisions about your treatment program.

You are supported every step of the way by your core clinical team. It’s made up of highly trained and experienced rehabilitation professionals including:

Physiatrist -- a board-certified physician who specializes in physical medicine and rehabilitation

Attending physician -- usually your own personal physician, he or she manages the medical aspects of your stay

Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse -- a specially trained nurse who focuses on teaching you to help yourself, s/he coordinates your day-to-day care

Physical Therapist -- who works with you to improve strength and mobility through a program of exercises and functional activities

Occupational Therapist -- who helps develop your everyday functional skills to maximize your independence in personal care, hygiene and homemaking

Speech and Language Pathologist -- who helps with communication skills such as speaking, comprehension, reading, writing, reasoning and remembering when injury or illness has diminished these abilities

Social Services/Case Management -- a licensed social worker who helps address the emotional, social and financial issues of rehabilitation; s/he also coordinates referrals or transfers to outpatient treatment facilities or community support services

Therapeutic Recreation Specialist -- who works with you to help optimize your independence in planning and accomplishing leisure-time pursuits

Dietician/Nutritionist -- who assesses your nutritional needs and develops the best dietary plan for you

Neuropsychologist -- who evaluates the psychological impact of neurological injury or disease, and helps implement an appropriate treatment plan

Prosthetics/Orthotics Specialists -- who select, fit and teach you how to use an artificial limb if you have had an amputation, as well as design and teach you how to use customized braces (orthotics) for support and proper body alignment if you have weakness in your legs, arms or back

Because it’s important to maintain your relationship with your primary care physician, he or she is welcome to participate in your care during your stay. We’ll send progress reports while you’re here, and a complete summary when you’re discharged.
