Expanded Parking & New Entrances

Motorists will now be able to drop patients and visitors off adjacent to the new Main Entrance B and Diagnostic Imaging and then conveniently park on our new parking deck.

The new two-level, 175 car garage brings the campus' total number of new parking spaces to 250.  All new spaces are at an even level with an entrance, making them easily accessible for persons with disabilities.

Through Surgical Services, Lobby D a visitor needs to take only a few steps to either relax in the extensive patient and family waiting area or visit a patient in one of the new recovery rooms.

Surgical Services, Lobby D is a wonderful gift from the Ronald M. Ansin Foundation.

Surgical Services

With the construction project, Surgical Services will expand HealthAlliance's range of services offered and improve the comfort and privacy of its patients in recovery after surgery.

The area will see an increase in square footage from 15,000 to 28,000, and its number of operating rooms from 5 to 8.  Each surgical room is set up to handle routine and more complex cases as well as adapt to advances in health care technology.

The recovery area will be increased from eight to twelve recovery bays to accommodate patients just out of surgery along with 20 private recovery rooms.  These spaces have been designed for total patient comfort and privacy with their families.

The Surgical Services patient and family waiting areas are generously donated by the HealthAlliance Guild.

East Building Patient Care Unit

Included in its 23,000 square feet, the Unit will house 30 private rooms for patients requiring hospital care.  Ten of the rooms will be specially equipped, providing care by trained orthopedic physicians and nurses on staff.  As with each foot of the entire construction project, patient rooms on the Unit were reviewed by physicians and staff members to ensure patient and family comfort.  Rooms are now large enough for a family member to stay with a patient around the clock and showers have been designed for easier patient access.

Critical Care Unit

The Critical Care Unit's expansion will not only push its boundaries from 4,000 to 11,000 square feet, and increase its beds from 7 to 10, but also keep its patients closer to home.  This allows for an additional volume of critical care patients, keeping patients and their families in the region.  In addition to a larger number of beds available, the Critical Care rooms have been designed with an eye towards the future.  Each room's size has been built to accommodate not only the latest health care technology but whatever advances may lie ahead.

The entire Critical Care Unit is the generous donation of the Clementi Family Charitable Trust.

Diagnostic Imaging

As plans developed for Diagnostic Imaging, more commonly known as Radiology, a specific need to serve the women's population was incorporated.  Items such as an increased number of private changing rooms and bathrooms were included to ensure the privacy and dignity of the patients.

In addition to an increase in radiographic procedure rooms, the entire department welcomes new, state-of-the-art equipment including mammography and bone densitometry services.

With the construction project's new surgical facilities and diagnostic imaging capabilities, patients will have smooth and immediate access to other treatments as needed.

The comprehensiveness of the Department's plans has evolved into the establishment of a Women's Diagnostic Center.  The complete diagnostic imaging space will grow from 8,000 to 17,000 square feet, of which 3,200 square feet will be dedicated to the Women's Diagnostic Center.

Emergency Department

Opened in 1970, the Emergency Department at HealthAlliance Leominster Campus covered 6,000 square feet of space and was built to accommodate up to 15,000 emergency visits per year.  Based upon a current demand of approximately 40,000 visits annually, the new Emergency Department space was designed to treat up to 65,000 patients each year.

The expanded space will meet the increasing demand for emergency services and have a positive effect on the waiting times and ambulance access. The existing department will increase its number of stretchers from 11 to 17 as well as six observation beds and one triage bed (all equipped with monitors).  The addition of more stretchers and new, state-of-the-art equipment will enable Health-Alliance to improve lengths of stay, and quality of patient care.

The Department will also include the Region's only Hazardous Materials Decontamination Room.

HealthAlliance would like to extend their thanks to a number of families who graciously donated treatment rooms in this area along with the Wachusett Emergency Physicians for their generous unrestricted gift.
