Pediatric/Young Adult
Services
The range of services available at the Leominster Campus allow area patients
to remain close to home even when they need inpatient care.
Inpatient Care
The Pediatric/Young Adult Unit is licensed for 12 inpatient beds. One parent
is invited to room in on the sleeping recliner in each room to make the patient
feel more comfortable during the hospital stay. Morning coffee available for
parents, and boarding mothers breastfeeding their child (who is a patient)
also receive meals.
Pediatric Same Day Surgery Recovery
Children undergoing same day surgery are admitted to the pediatric/young adult
unit where trained pediatric nurses look after them. The nurses prepare the
children for surgery and accompany them to the operating room. When the surgery
is completed and the patients awake in the first phase of recovery, they are
brought back to the pediatric/young adult unit to complete their recovery.
They stay on the pediatric unit until discharged. Families are encouraged
to remain on the pediatric unit with their child.

This service is for sick children who have common, temporary illnesses (e.g.,
flu, pink eye, tonsillitis, upper respiratory infections, diarrhea, strep
throat, ear infections) and do not have a known communicable disease (e.g.,
chicken pox, measles, mumps) or undiagnosed rashes. The service is available
for children of employees and the general public. Availability of this service
is on a first come/ first served basis and influenced by the census on the
Pediatric Unit.
Pre-registration is required. For more information or to request registration
